The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose has directed that his deputy, Dr. Kolapo Olusola Eleka, should take charge and oversee the state’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
A government statement on Friday said the step was taken with a view to repositioning the education sector and regaining lost ground.
The deputy governor, who is an associate professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, is expected to bring to bear, his vast experience as a lecturer of many decades in restoring the glory of education in the state.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi, on Friday, said “ Goovernor Fayose noted that with the person of Dr. Olusola Eleka overseeing the education sector, Ekiti State was on the verge of making history again,” adding that “Ekiti State was on the eighth and seventh position in WAEC and NECO respectively when he left office in 2006.”
The governor described his deputy as “an experienced and erudite scholar of many years who is capable of addressing the rot in the education sector and giving it a boost.”
He added that, “with this additional responsibility, the deputy governor now superintends over issues bordering on education from the primary level to the tertiary level with all education-related departments and agencies reporting to the deputy governor who in turn reports to the governor.”
