EFCC raids Ambode’s residence in Epe, Lagos

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives, on Tuesday morning entered the residence of former Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, raiding the building as part of an ongoing corruption investigation.

A top aide of the former governor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that EFCC operatives raided Ambode’s home.

The residence of Mr Ambode in his hometown of Epe was being searched as of 9:35 a.m. The aide revealed that Ambode was not in the country and his home had been raided in his absence.

The residence of the former governor’s chief of staff in the same Epe neighbourhood was also being searched.

Billions of naira were allegedly misappropriated in the four years of Mr Ambode in office, and detectives have been busy trying to untangle all webs around the alledged corruption.

The commission’s spokesman, Mr Tony Orilade, told newsmen that the operatives were in Ambode’s house as part of investigations.

The anti-graft agency had in a recent statement by Orilade announced the freezing of three banks accounts linked to Ambode which were allegedly used in the diversion of N9.9bn in September 2018.
