A draft private Bill proposing Regional Governments in Nigeria has been trending online.
The draft Bill which proposes a new governance model that would take off not later than October 1, 2024, states that Nigeria shall be a federation comprising regional territories and the Federal Capital territory.
Every ethnic nationality and people in Nigeria will have an unconditional right to self-determination, the promoter of a trending draft “bill” seeking a return to the regional system of government, Dr. Akin Fapohunda, has proposed.
But, The Punch had reported that Nigeria’s House of Representatives disowned the said trending draft ‘bill’ for discussion.
The newspaper further reports that, speaking on phone, the House spokesman, Akin Rotimi, said: “The Committees on Rules and Business and Constitution Review have confirmed that there is no such bill before them.”
