Mr. Abubakar Mahmoud SAN, counsel to the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has declared that Sanusi will challenge his dethronement and banishment in court.

At a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja, Mr. Abubakar Mahmoud SAN stated this.

Mahmoud SAN said the restriction of the Emir’s movement and his dethronement were unlawful and gross violation of his fundamental human rights.

Mahmoud said the Kano state Emirate law 2019 does not empower the Kano State Executive to banish Sanusi. He pointed out that the dethronement and banishment of Sanusi, a former CBN governor, is a ”violation of his human rights.”

The deposed Emir Jakolo of Gwandu also challenged his dethronement and banishment by the Kebbi State government in 2005 and he won at the High court and Appeals court. The Supreme Court is yet to rule on the matter.
