Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson, as Governor of Lagos State, introduced multi-lanes into Lagos roads in the 60s/70s. The first of its kind roads in Nigeria was accomplished through Julius Berger, the construction giant brought to Nigeria by Mobolaji Johnson. That was when Nigeria was still bearing its name and gradually, this system of roads was introduced to other cities and other States in Nigeria.
This picture shows ‘the right hand drive’ and orderliness by the road users in Lagos in the 60s/70s of the Lagos Municipal Transport Service (LMTS), Oshinowo Transport Service and Benson Transport Service. All that serenity of road usage in Lagos has been wiped away by the chaotic Molue and Danfo transport system which took over due to the failure of State. (Photo credit: Getty Images).
