Families, friends and well-wishers gathered at Erijiyan-Ekiti, December 12 and 13 to celebrate and say good bye to my Dad, Hon Gabriel Ojo Adewumi Ogundana (1932-2014) who had his sunset on July 17, 2014. Few hours to his death, he attended a thanksgiving ceremony organized for the Nigerian Minister of State for Works, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye at Ise-Ekiti and participated actively.
The celebration of his life commenced by picking his remains from the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital Morgue, Ado-Ekiti on December 12. He was taken to Ekiti West Local Government Secretariat where he was at a time its Vice Chairman for a brief lying-in-state. This was followed by his lying-in-state and Service of Songs at his residence at Erijiyan-Ekiti. On Saturday, December 13 2014, a Church service was conducted for him at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Erijiyan-Ekiti which was followed immediately by internment. The celebration was rounded up by a grand reception to entertain all that graced the occasion with a thanksgiving service at the same Church on Sunday December 14.
Hon Adewumi Ogundana attended St. John’s Catholic School, Ilawe-Ekiti where he obtained his Standard Six Certificate in 1946. He attended All Saints’ Teacher Training College and obtained his Grade II Teacher’s Certificate in 1969. He later proceeded to the University of Lagos where he obtained his NCE Certificate and BA degree in Education respectively.
His career was certificated teaching until he retired as a Vice Principal. He was elected and became the Vice Chairman of the old Ekiti West LG from 1988 to 1989. He was appointed President of Grade A Customary Court in 1990 and served on the Bench for 11 years.
I want to thank those who attended the ceremony for honoring us with their presence. I want to specially thank my husband, Olusina Akeredolu and his family for standing by me all the time. My husband could not attend the ceremony due to family reasons but his family filled the gap. He was there with me in September last year when we buried my Mom. To my husband’s family, I promise, I will marry you again, again and again.
