Court rejects DCP Abba Kyari?s bail application

Nigerian Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has rejected the application for bail filed by suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sunday J. Ubua.

The two senior police officers are charged with five others in relation to offences of unlawful drug dealings.

Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling on Monday morning, held that the prosecution has placed sufficient materials before the court to warrant the refusal of bail to both senior police officers.

Also, in a ruling on Monday, the judge declined the request for bail by two Inspectors of Police – Simon Agirgba and John Nuhu – charged along with suspended DCP Abba Kyari on offences of illegal dealing in drugs.

Nwite held that having considered the affidavit evidence supplied by parties and proof of evidence, he was convinced that the prosecution has successfully raised reasonable presumption of criminal responsibility on the part of the defendants.

Instead of bail, the judge granted an accelerated hearing of the case.
