Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, have been issued their certificates of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after their victory in Saturday’s governorship election in the State.
INEC’s National Commissioner supervising Edo, Rivers, and Bayelsa States, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, presented the certificates to the winners at the INEC’s office in Benin on Tuesday.
Governor Obaseki was reelected on Saturday but declared as the winner on Sunday after scoring the highest number of votes and meeting all other conditions as mandated by the constitution and electoral law.
Obaseki had received the official results sheet of the election from House of Representatives member, Ogbeide Ihama, after defeating Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress at the polls
Obaseki and his deputy, Shaibu, will be sworn in for a second term in office on November 12, 2020.
