The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Usman, announced the recapture Saturday afternoon.

“During the operations, they (soldiers) encountered little resistance as the insurgents were on the run,” he said.

“Cordon and search and mopping up operations are ongoing in these areas. Operations by troops are also continuing to recover the few areas remaining in the hands of terrorists.”

The Nigerian military had earlier on Saturday announced the recapture of two more local governments after intense fighting.

Mr. Usman had said in a statement that troops flushed out Boko Haram terrorists from Mafa and Marte Local Government Areas of Borno state.
