Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has, on Friday, received General Mahamat Idriss Deby, President of Chad’s Transitional Military Council and son of the late Chadian president, Idriss Deby Itno who was killed in battle a few weeks ago.
The new helmsman arrived at the presidential villa, Abuja at about 11.10 am and was received by President Buhari at the forecourt of his office.
Buhari and his guest are expected to discuss the transition process and the fight against insurgents in the Lake Chad Basin.
General Mahamat came to power after his father, President Idriss Déby Itno, died of his injuries following clashes with rebels in the north of the country in April.
Buhari told his guest that Nigeria would assist the Republic of Chad to stabilise and return to constitutional order.
