[1] President Muhammadu Buhari has created further furore with his naming of Assistant Inspector General Ibrahim Kpotun Idris as the new inspector general of police
[2] AIG Idris hails from Kutigi, in Niger State, http://goo.gl/L8Yb2y
[3] He is the 17th defence chief appointed by President Buhari out of the 20 he has named so far
[4] Following the retirement of Mr Arase, six deputy inspectors general of Police who served under him were retired yesterday too. They include Dan-Azumi Job Doma, Sotonye Wakama, Ibrahim Mamman Tsafe, Kakwa Christopher Katso, Cynthia Amaju Onu and Jubril Olawale Adeniji
[5] Personally, I think President Buhari should have appointed a southerner to the position to avoid claims that he is biased in favour of the north
[6] It appears that President Buhari is not aware of the fact that the Niger Delta crisis and the Biafran agitation are fuelled by perceptions that he is a sectional leader
[7] My view is that President Buhari should have named Cynthia Amaju Onu as the new inspector general of police
[8] Imagine how he would have been able to answer back many of his critics if he has named an Igbo woman as the inspector general of police. He is Ms Onu being decorated as an AIG
[9] I do not if it is due to the fact that he is surrounded by bad advisers or if it is him himself but President Buhari appears totally oblivious to the fact that there is a lot of ethnic tension in the country right now. This latest appointment is utterly insensitive
[10] Maybe the way forward is for him to set up anj multi-ethnic board to oversee all his appointments. Are we really going to live with this tension for the next three years?

Why not Jubril Adeniji?
