In general, this is a good idea; EFCC/Prosecutors and the defence can negotiate the percentage of the looted funds to
be returned to the FG/National Treasury Plus an agreeable/agreed on JAIL TERM. BUT A PERCENTAGE OF THE FUNDS
MUST BE RETURNED !!Spending five years in jail DOES NOT PROVIDE JOBS TO NIGERIANS WHO NEED EMPLOYMENT…..BUT THE
FUNDS CAN GO INTO INFRASTRUCTURE BUILDING AND OTHER JOBS-
CREATING MEDIUM.
That’s not a good deal! What is appropriate for all these ex-governors government leaders is to make their jail terms a contingency of what they are accused of stealing. That is, if the person is accused of stealing $20 million, he or she would return 75% of the loot in exchange for a lighter sentence. In Mr. James Bala Ngilari’s case, it will be 75% return of the loot for 5 years.
