According to Sahara Reporters, as many as 10 of the candidates vying for the opportunity to be APC gubernatorial candidate left the venue of the primary angrily, and so, it is unclear if the large-scale disaffection that compelled them to take that action will precipitate further crisis within the APC in Lagos that might lead to the party losing the key state.
Ambode’s victory did not come as a big surprise because he had been anointed by the APC leader. A source told SaharaReporters yesterday that Ambode attended a candidate meeting and bragged that he had already won and that today’s primaries would be a mere formality.
The victory of Ambode over Supo Shashore, a candidate preferred by the current governor, Babatunde Fashola, re-asserts Mr. Tinubu’s firm control of the state’s APC political party machinery.
It is yet to be seen whether it would play out the way it happened when Tinubu insisted in presenting Fashola as their party’s candidate in 2007 or in the way such party crisis became an opportunity for a rival party as it was during the time of chief Otedola.
