Elder statesman, socialite and the ‘Baba Eto’ of Lagos and Yorubaland, Chief Nathaniel Folarin Coker is dead. He died at the age of 97.

Chief Folarin Coker, who was a former permanent secretary in Lagos State, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, after a brief illness.

His death has continued to evoke mixed feelings of grief and gratitude for a life well spent from his family and friends.

According to his eldest son, Folorunsho Coker, who is the Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, the Baba Eto of Lagos, as the older Coker was fondly called, ‘died comfortably and peacefully in his sleep in Lagos’.

Coker served in various Lagos State ministries including Education; Youth, Sports and Social Development; Trade, Mines and Natural Resources; and Information and Tourism.

The family stated that burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
