Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has decried the high rate of suicide in Nigeria.
Atiku on Tuesday, enjoined Nigerian parents and communities at large to look out for early signs of depression in the lives of young people.
According to him, paying close attention will help control the rate of suicide in Nigeria.
On his Twitter page, Atiku wrote: “The rate of suicide among our youth is worrisome. I believe that as parents and community, we need to pay close attention for early signs of depression among our young people, particularly in this depressing times.”
Sometime last week a church minister, Michael Arowosaiye committed suicide. He was said to have taken his life following financial issues and the inability to pay his house rent.
This came same time it was reported that a student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Chukwuemeka Ugwuoke committed suicide on May 13.
