A coalition of civil society groups campaigning against corruption in the country is organising a protest march to register its disgust against what it described as “festival of corruption at the Presidency.”
In a statement issued in Lagos, Comrade Eze Harris Chuma, Executive Director, National Coalition of NGOs Fighting Corruption in Nigeria, said: “On the 7th of February, 2017 All the affiliate bodies, groups and units of Citizen Anti corruption volunteers will stage anti corruption walk nationwide to register displeasure at the festival of corruption going on at the Presidency. The ‘Buhari kill corruption walk’ will commence nationwide simultaneously at Zonal Levels of the Coalitions.
“All Zonal Directors are hereby implored to mobilise members and indeed the citizens to a successful ‘anti corruption walk’.
“We call on the CSOs, NGOSs and discerning citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to rise to the occasion. All we are demanding from Mr. President is to halt the harvest of corruption currently going on at the Presidency.
“We demand to know, what is Abba Kyari still doing at the Presidency; what is Babachir Lawal still doing at the Presidency; why should Mr. President’s cabinet members who have corruption cases dangling on their necks still retain their positions? Are they sacred cows? Are they untouchables? Are they special breeds?
“We simply demand that they resign and face allegations of corruption leveled against them. President Buhari must kill corruption at the Presidency now!
“We must begin to hold our leaders accountable, responsible and responsive. The fight against corruption in Nigeria should be owned by the citizens not the other way round. The monumental deceit and treachery rocking the government of the day should be exposed to help Mr President succeed. We call for overhaul of his cabinet and expunge non performing ministers to move the country forward.
“Mr President should do the needful, the urgency of now demands decisive actions! End the festival of corruption at the Presidency now! The truth is that citizens who are committed and have rendered total solidarity on Mr. President’s anti corruption war are gradually losing faith, the war should be holistic, devoid of sectionalism.
“Let us walk to save our nation from the firm grip of unfriendly friends of the state, corrupt office holders who are hell bent on dragging the nation to precipice! Let us walk to end the harvest of corruption at the presidency NOW!
