No fewer than 35 women were abducted yesterday by armed bandits in Matankari village under Dansadau Emirate of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rampaging armed bandits, numbering about 100, according to a source, stormed the village and started shooting sporadically to chase away people and abducted the helpless women, who were rounded up at and taken away to yet-to-be known destination.
The abduction of the 35 women is coming less than one month after about 50 people, including a serving Police Inspector were kidnapped in Maru Local Government Area, while more than 155 others were killed in four local government areas of the state, namely Maru, Mara-dun, Shinkafi and Zurmi within five days also in November.
When contacted, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Shaba Alkali, confirmed the abduction of the 35 women but said the Police moved swiftly and has been able to rescue about 30 of the women. He said that the Police was on the trail of the culprits and would ensure the remaining women were rescued alive. (New Telegraph)
