Interim national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, has again thrown punches at the duo of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, declaring that they would not be allowed to destroy the APC as they did their former party, PDP.
He stressed that the party made them and as such they cannot defy it.
Akande, in an interview with Saturday Tribune, rose above the criticisms that trailed his statement earlier this week that shocked many members of his political party by insisting that respecting the position of the party’s leadership remains the only path for Saraki and Dogara to follow.
He said the APC was responsible for the election of the top legislators in the first instance and as such, they could not rise above the party’s principles and regulations.
The former governor of Osun State also emphasised his branding of party members that participated in blindsiding the party in the emergence of the leaders of the lower and upper chambers of the National Assembly, as it were, as traitorous and rebellious.
Chief Akande described Senator Saraki and Honourable Dogara as being all out to foist the fortune of their former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on the new ruling party through their “rebellion” which, he said, killed the PDP.
He said the backers of the “rebellion” as insinuated in his letter, which was made public on Monday, paled in comparison to the “criminal act” which, he said, the action of Saraki, Dogara and others against the party symbolised.
“The cardinal thing I emphasised in that statement was discipline, obedience to your party. It is our party that made Saraki. He cannot disobey our party.
“Saraki and Dogara are from the old PDP. They defected to our party and they are the leaders of this rebellion. It is indiscipline that killed their old party. Can they deny that? Are they not from the old PDP?
We had formed and registered our party many months before they came. It doesn’t mean that they should do what they did in PDP to us. We will reject it. The way forward is for them to be disciplined,” Akande said. (Nigerian Tribune).
