Tinubu receives Indian PM Modi at Aso Rock, confers him with national honour, GCON

President Bola Tinubu has received the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, Nigeria.

Modi, who arrived in Abuja on Saturday evening, was welcomed at the Forecourt of the Villa at about 10:20 am on Sunday.

The Indian leader, upon his arrival, was greeted with the Indian national anthem, followed by a Guard of Honour mounted by a Brigade of Guards, which performed the Nigerian national anthem and led the visiting Prime Minister in inspecting the mounted parade.

According to the Presidency, Tinubu and Modi aim to strengthen Nigerian-Indian relations during this visit.

“President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will further enhance Nigeria’s and India’s ties during their bilateral discussions. Both leaders will exchange signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to boost collaboration in critical sectors.

“President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will aim to deepen Nigeria’s and India’s ties during their bilateral discussions.

Tinubu later conferred Nigeria’s second-highest national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Tinubu made the announcement during a bilateral meeting with the Indian leader at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President stated that the honour was “to signify our appreciation of India as Nigeria’s partner.”
