You know until today, I didn’t know that Miss (Ms.) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a married woman. Well, now I know better. I know better because I overheard my boss talking to a journalist, and the subject turned to the threat that the Oba of Lagos had issued to the Igbo about how they must vote for his candidate for the Lagos governorship election or be drowned in the lagoon around Lagos.
My mentioned how he has come to regard Adichie as a leader for her staunch defense of the Igbo in an article she had written questioning the Oba’s threats. That’s when I heard about the subject of her being married; m,y boss expressed surprise that she was married and immediately checked and there it was that she was married to a medical doctor in the U.S. Dr. Esega (Esege), the whole thing seems shrouded in secrecy.
I understand that she says the man is a Nigerian, American and British all combined. It doesn’t seem easy to categorize the man as to whether he is Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa/Fulani by the spelling of his name. Well, it doesn’t seem to really matter. She looks happy.
As I started checking it the information, I discovered that Adichie had sternly warned journalists not to refer to her as “Mrs” but simply “Miss/Ms”. I couldn’t find out when she got married as that information don’t seem to be available. Her insistence on being referred to as Miss only even led to some people to speculate that her marriage might be on the rock. But they seem to be happily married and will be cemented even more when the Umuakas start arriving. (Images: (Mandatory): Daniel Deme / WENN, Contactmusic.com, Africansuntimes).
