First chartered accountant in Nigeria, Pa Akintola Williams Turns 103 (video)

The first person (Nigerian) to qualify as Chartered Accountant in Africa, Pa Akintola Williams turned 103 on Tuesday, August 9.

Pa Akintola Williams was born on August 9, 1919.

In 1952 he founded Akintola Williams & Co., Nigeria’s first indigenous accountancy firm.

Pa Akintola Williams was the first president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and played a leading role in establishing the association of accountants in Nigeria in 1960 with the goal of training accountants.

His younger brother, late Chief Rotimi Williams, was also the first Nigerian to be decorated with the title, ‘Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN);’ and he also set up the first indigenous Nigerian law firm in 1948 with Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode and Chief Bode Thomas.

An intimate event was held by family and close friends to celebrate him.
