Professor Toyin Falola, author and professor of African Studies had a two hours thirty minutes interview with former Nigerian president, Chief (General) Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday on the issues affecting Nigeria and Africa at the moment
The Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities at the University of Texas at Austin had organised strategic interviewers from across the world among them Professors, students, notable journalists, essay writers, organisations, et al.
One of the interviewers, Mr. Dare Babarinsa, a notable journalist, asked about restructuring Nigeria. Obasanjo’s answer is that restructuring may be described in so many ways: devolution of power, policing, returning to the old regional system and so on.
Obasanjo said on returning to the old regional system, he called Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi and asked him if his people want to return to Ibadan. He said Fayemi told him that he (Obasanjo) is the one who should come and tell Ekiti people that they would be returned to be under Ibadan.
Obasanjo again said he asked the governor of Zamfara state the same question and the governor’s answer was that they are not even willing to go back to Sokoto not to talk of going back to the old northern region.
The former president seems to agree with the position of Nigeria remaining with thirty six states.
