A progressive woman identified as Jane, with a single limb amputation got the attention of Nigerians when she joined the End SARS protesters on Saturday, October 17.
The woman reportedly walked for hours with her crutches and this touched Nigerians after her photo was shared online.
Nigerians immediately asked for her identity and how they can donate a prosthetic leg or motorized wheelchair to her.
Less than 24 hours after her photo was shared online, Nigerians had set up a GoFundMe account for her with a goal of raising 1.5 million Naira. But Nigerians surpassed the funding goal and raised over 1.6 million Naira and people are still donating.
A popular medical doctor on Twitter, Chinonso Egemba, known as Aproko doctor, actually started the fundraising for her after identifying the need for a prosthetic leg for her to enable her walk.
“This is Jane.
“She’s been unemployed since 2013 partly because of her disability, she came out in the #EndSARS protests and we need to help.”
As of 2.17 p.m. on Sunday, the donation is 296% complete with N4,438,370 million raised, according to reports.
Another protester, identified as Charles Nnaman, with the same challenge as Jane is to benefit from the donation. He led the protest from Stadium to Bode Thomas in Surulere, despite having one limb.
