Why Most Nigerian Men Are Scared To Approach Plus Size Ladies'- Auntie Remi Gives Proper Insight

Plus-size skit maker, Remilekun Fatolu, popularly known as Auntie Remi, says that finding love has been difficult because of her size.

Auntie Remi told Sunday Scoop: “I have never been lucky with relationships. Maybe love is not just for me. So many times, I had wanted to give up. But recently, I sat down and thought about what exactly I was doing wrong?

“I then realised I have done nothing wrong; my only ‘crime’ is that I’m plus-size. In one of my past relationships, I visited my boyfriend unannounced, and on getting to his house, I overheard him talking with a friend. He told his friend that he could not marry me and there was no way he would take me home to his mother because of my size. They laughed and mocked me, and even spoke about his other girlfriend. I ended the relationship immediately and since then, it has been very hard trusting a man or anyone.”

“As a plus-size girl, growing up was pretty difficult for me and I almost dropped out of school because of bullying. I was the biggest person in my class and I had no friends. I was always sad because I was usually called names such as ‘orobo’ (fat girl) and ‘iya apati’ (fat woman). All that caused a lot of damage to my self-esteem and I almost fell into depression. However, I thank God I was able to pull through.”

Asked if she would love to lose weight, she said, “I no longer wish I was not plus-sized. I used to wish I was not this big but I have now found peace within myself. I am very comfortable in my skin and I do not wish to lose weight anymore.

“Yes, we are big but it does not mean we are senseless. It amazes me how most men would choose to explore rather than show love. We are humans too; we deserve love, care and attention.  We do not deserve the bullying, humiliation and heartbreak that we often get. Finding love has not been an easy one. Being plus-size shouldn’t be the reason for not having a healthy relationship. If the man does not stick to you, then he never loved you.” (Punch)
