The sensational blade-legged runner who was charged to court for the killing of his girl friend inside his house has been sentenced to a five-year jail term by the trial court in South Africa.
He will however spend part of the five years in prison and the other part under house arrest. The sentence was imposed for the charge of culpable homicide, which in South Africa means a person was killed unintentionally, but unlawfully.
Under South African law, he will have to serve at least one-sixth of his sentence — 10 months — before he can ask to be placed under correctional supervision, usually house arrest, instead.
It will be recalled that the same court discharged him of a more serious charge a few weeks ago.
