More than 5 persons have been confirmed dead and several others remain unconscious at the campaign rally of the All Progressive Congress (APC) held at the Adokiye Amesiamaka Stadium in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Reports say that as President Muhammadu Buhari left the venue, the people tried to get out, but the gates were said to have been locked by Rivers APC.
According to reports, the unfortunate incident was caused by stampede when thousands of APC supporters were in a hurry to leave the venue of the Presidential rally for fear of physical attack between the two factions of the APC.
Emergency ambulance arrived the scene to evacuate some of the survivors while those confirmed dead have been taken away by security operatives.
The Rivers State Police Command is yet to react to the incident.
