34-year-old Nigerian engineer, Kufre Uwem has been sentenced to seven years in prison over the rape of a teenager in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Uwem, of 6 Waterton Lawn, Stoneywood, Aberdeen, who was a sub-sea project engineer, detained the woman against her will in his flat and then removed her clothing and raped her.
He was also convicted of intent to rape a second woman in her flat.
The offences were committed on October, 18, 2012, and October 30, 2016, at flats in Aberdeen.
Uwem continues to maintain his innocence.
At the High Court in Glasgow, judge Lord Arthurson told Uwem:
“This was a course of violent and predatory sexual offending, notwithstanding the four years between the two offences.”
The High Court in Glasgow heard that Uwem’s first victim was a first-year student who Uwen met by chance and invited her to his flat. Once there he raped her.
In a victim impact statement to the court the victim said that the rape had “a monumental impact on her life”.
Uwem’s second victim was attacked in her own home. Uwem restrained her, removed her lower clothing with intent to rape her.
He stood with his head bowed as Lord Arthurson told him:
“The consequences are truly catastrophic for you.”
Uwem, who has an MSc in pipe engineering, was placed on the sex offenders’ register.

Psychopathy symptomises as mental illness in different forms. Obviously this individual has a deep-seated psycho-sexual illness dating back to adolescence; hence the manic urge to prey upon women. There is no doubt his crime was triggered by a lack of normal sexual emotion towards the opposite sex and one may diagnose sexual dysfunction in him. Added to this would be the delusional and lack of empathy attributes of psychopaths in general. As a well-educated person, it does not take rocket science to foresee such consequences in the host society. Rape incidents are taken very seriously and criminally processed in a very arbitrary and thorough manner, with hardly an extenuating circumstance. A woman who says ‘No’ means ‘No’. It is not a case where an alleged perpetrator can cry ‘victimisation, or draw sympathy from the courts or the public; it should.t have happened, even remotely. Immigrants are easily led by assumed consent of the host populace, but people should have evidential ‘shield’ such as long period of visible interaction and or, courtship to protect themselves; no matter what race or ethnicity the female is. Uwem certainly needs rehabilitation, post-incarceration because the prognosis is most likely he will do it again.
