A clash between supporters of the Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye and those of the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaha Bello, was reported on Monday in Lokoja, the state capital.
Melaye who had arrived in Lokoja to address his supporters on his recall from the Red Chambers attracted gunshots from his supporters and those of the state governor that lasted for over one hour.
He arrived the gate of the State Polytechnic, Felele, at about 11am.
He was midway into the address when continuous gunshots were heard from the NATACO end of the Okene/Abuja road.
Reporters who witnessed the whole episode report that one of the supporters bearing a pump action gun was shot, but could not confirm if he died. While another unconfirmed report had it that several people were injured from sporadic gunshots from both warring political heavyweights.
The exchange of the gunfire lasted for over one hour before the arrival of both the Special Adviser to the state governor, Air Commodore Jerry Omodara and the State Commissioner of Police Wilson Inalevu. (The Punch)
