Pa Tai Solarin and Chief Gani Fawehinmi in their Aluta days. They did all they could to ensure that the Nigerian commonwealth was not meant for only a few. When aluta was aluta, these human right giants were the nemesis of the Nigerian militicians of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Pa Tai Solarin’s article titled: “The beginning of the end” was a prelude to the ouster of General Yakubu Gowon’s military government even though publication of the said article earned Pa Solarin a number of months in detention.
In the case of Chief Gani Fawehinmi, General Ibrahim Babangida, the evil genius cannot forget him in a hurry. He was a single man that shook the successive Nigerian military administrators to their marrows. He also extended his activism to scrutinize politicians during democratic rule. He had no friend among the political elite. His only friend was: “what is right.” It is very unfortunate that Nigeria, in term of development, is worse now than they both left it at the time of their death. We can only assure them that the struggle continues. Live on our heroes!!!
