OPEN LETTER TO NASS AND TO ALL NIGERIANS.
While several OPEC countries and many non-OPEC crude oil producing countries like Canada, China, Russia etc are busy focusing on cost-cutting in their recurrent budgetary expenses for 2016 with the reality of crash in crude oil price globally with more focus on capital projects that will boost their economy, the Nigerian NASS remain in denial of reality which is obvious to everyone on this planet earth!
HOW? Even if crude oil price crash below $10 per barrel, NASS still want to maintain their records of highest paid Lawmakers in the world wide world!
How come Nigeria and Nigerians end up to get to trap with these calibers of heartless lawmakers??
Every Nigerians expect that the APC majority NASS should show that they are progressive unlike PDP majority NASS since 1999. However, the 8th NASS proved Nigerians wrong!
They prefer to stick head bent to their over bloated budget of N115 to N120bn recurrent budget for 12 months.
It’s even more shameful that any Senator from the NASS could face press and grant interview to openly defend the defenseless plan to convert N4.7billion to US $ to place order for 2016 model SUVs for the entire 109 Senators with the Senate President.
How did Nigeria got so unfortunate to have these set of people in the National Assembly? Do they read newspapers at all?
Senator Gbenga Ashafa of Lagos APC came out on ChannelsTV to say the acquisition of the N4.7bn vehicles will help the Senators to carry out their oversight function properly. He went further and said the acquisition of the 2016 model SUVs for each and every senators in Nigeria will help them fight corruption war.
To worsen the act of shameful defense of the heartless act, Senator Bassey Akpan who happen to be the Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas Resources, granted interview to Punch Newspaper recently that each senator requires more than one official car to perform their legislative functions.
I pity Nigeria and Nigerians on how we end up to have these calibers of people as Federal Lawmakers. This is shameful to say the least!
What a shameful comment from “Sinator” Akpan that Nigerian Lawmakers need more than one official vehicle each to perform their legislative function !!!
Very soon, each NASS member will demand one private jet each to be able to perform their oversight function! What a Nonsense?
Hope they know that Iran is pumping crude oil now and crude oil price per barrel could dip below $20/barrel.
Instead of them to reflect on the global economic crisis to save needless recurrent expenses, their priority is how to convert N4.7 billion Naira to Dollars to place order for imported SUVs that will further lead to depletion of the already depleted Nigeria external foreign reserve. And NASS members expect the Naira to appreciate against dollars in foreign exchange?
Do this people think before talking at all?
Must they come to grant press interview if they have nothing concrete that can move the country forward to say?
Must Akpan grant interview?
These same NASS members collect newspaper allowance to pocket monthly!
Do they read at all to know what’s happening on earth at all ?
Do they know the closing of crude oil OPEC basket this evening?
I ask if they do read at all because if they do, one wouldn’t expect to hear such childish comments from any respectable senator of the Federal Republic with Nigerian blood flowing through his or her vein!
The International economic sanctions on Iran was lifted after a watchdog confirmed it had complied with a deal designed to prevent it developing nuclear weapons.
What does Iran stand to gain after the sanction lifting????
What does the world global market stand to face after the Iran Sanction lifting????
Hope Nigerian Senators Can Read The Under listed Points and Digested to have an idea of the realities on ground:
The economic sanctions have cost Iran more than more than $160bn (£102bn) in crude oil revenue since 2012 alone. Now that it’s being lifted, the Iran have resume selling crude oil on international markets and using the global financial system for trade.
Iran has the 4th largest crude oil reserves in the world and the energy industry and countries including NIGERIA must brace up for much lower crude oil prices.
Lifting the sanctions will unfreeze billions of dollars of assets and allow Iran’s crude oil to be sold internationally. Iran will therefore be able to access more than $100bn in assets frozen overseas.
What does the sanction lifting mean to Iran’s economy and world markets?
The prospect of Iran doubling its crude oil exports has contributed to the continuing fall in the crude oil price. Benchmark Brent crude closed below $29 (£20.3) on Friday. The OPEC basket crude oil is already fallen below $27 on Monday.
In fact, the share prices in Saudi Arabia, the Arab world’s largest stock market, fell more than 6% following the lifting of Iran’s sanctions.
Let’s tell ourselves the truth:
Is it not time for NASS budget for 2016 to slash to N 30bn from N120bn??
Is it not time to consider part time lawmakers that will be paid per seating??
Is it not time for each and every lawmakers to combine rice plantation and processing in their constituency with their part time legislative position??
Is it not time to forget and abandon the proposal of N4.7bn for brand new SUVs??
Is it not time to consider UniCamera Legislative System in Nigeria instead of the Current BiCamera (Senate and House of Reps) that are too too expensive for Nigeria to sustain and maintain???
Is it not time to cut down the bogus salaries and allowances of the NASS where mediocres will kicked out from the system to create room for only serious minded patriotic Parliamentary members?
Must the NASS use their independence as a separate arm of government to hold Nigeria in ransom not to succumb to the plight of Nigerians for their lavish frivolous lifestyles being maintained by tax payers money???
In spite of the cash crunch facing the nation, who in his or her right senses will propose N4.7bn to purchase brand new exotic vehicles in 2016???
Many Nigerians KEPT on wondering if they have wrongfully voted for ANTI-PEOPLE 8th NASS with ZERO love of the common man at heart???
Is THIS THE CHANGE???
Hope someone is thinking and reflecting on the points raised???
God will only help those who help themselves. Only Nigerians can save or ruin Nigeria.
Yours In Struggle,
Mayowa Michael Adeleye
