The swearing-in ceremony of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and five National Commissioners of INEC took place this morning.
The National Commissioners are: Mrs. Amina Zakari, Mr. Solomon Adedeji Soyebi, Prof. Antonia Taiye Okoosi-Simbine, Dr. Muhammed Mustafa Lecky and Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo.
The ceremony took place inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa Abuja and was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The president at the swearing-in ceremony, charged the Prof. Yakubu-led INEC to make the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria their priority, stressing that they can’t afford to fail Nigerians in future elections.
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki was in attendance. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was also in attendance at the brief ceremony that was also witnessed by Senate Whip, Senator Olusola Adeyeye and other senators.
