In response to pressure by Nigerians following mass killings allegedly by herdsmen, President Muhammadu Buhari finally arrived Makurdi, the Benue State capital for his official visit to the State.
This is the first time Buhari would be visiting the nation’s acclaimed food basket since assuming power in mid-2015.
The presidential jet touched down at the Makurdi Air Force base at about 11:00 am and the president was accompanied by some ministers, governors and aides.
President Buhari during the trip was expected to pay a courtesy call on the Chairman of the Benue State Council of Chiefs, Tor Tiv the fifth, Professor James Ayatse.
He was scheduled to hold a meeting with major stakeholders at the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi, from where he was expected to proceed to one of the eight displaced persons’ camps in the state.
It is not known at the time of filing this report, whether he visited the ground where the 73 victims were buried.
