As Nigerians look to head to the polls today to elect either continuity or change, President Goodluck Jonathan had yesterday arrived his Otuoke Country home in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The president arrived at about 3pm in company of the Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, and other aides.
Jonathan was said to have gone straight to Otuoke from the Port Harcourt International Airport.
Security was heavily mounted in Otuoke and other surrounding environs prior to the President’s arrival.
President Jonathan is expected to cast his vote at ward 13 in Otuoke, close to his country home.
Among security measures that were taken to secure the President are two Armoured Personnel Carriers seen on the Otuoke Road.
One was stationed in front of the President’s house.
The other was parked in front of Magels Resort, a hotel close to a commercial bank.
Earlier, a helicopter was seen hovering around the town, apparently on security surveillance.
Soldiers and policemen were also seen on the main Otuoke Road.
Meanwhile, Security agencies have embarked on various measures to prevent breakdown of law and order in the 36 states of the country in today’s presidential election.
The Abia State Police Command deployed 12,000 personnel to monitor the poll.
Armed soldiers have also stormed Ondo State to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls.
Meanwhile, a total of 25 foreign and local observers have been accredited by INEC to monitor the elections in the state.
About six have reported for clearance as at 10:00am on Friday. Those already cleared include the African Union, European Union, ECOWAS, United Nations Women, All Nigerian Nationals in Diaspora and the International Republican Institute.
